Tips from Dr. Welch
I've had a lot of questions recently about using toothpaste to treat acne blemishes. This home remedy made its rounds in the past and has apparently resurfaced as an alternative to traditional acne medication. There are some ingredients in toothpaste, like sodium pyrophosphate and silica, which might help to treat minor acne breakouts. The key here is the word "minor." Most people will experience much more success sticking to over-the-counter acne medications. In fact, some people even have skin sensitivities to toothpaste that could make acne problems worse. It's probably best to save the toothpaste for your teeth and look to products like OXY® Clinical to treat breakouts. The good news is that clear skin can make you smile too.
